Searching for a job on your own can be both discouraging and confusing. Luckily, there are lots of services and organizations out there to help you navigate these murky waters. You have probably heard of temp services, but aren't quite sure how these services work. Keep reading to learn about temp services and how they can help you find your next great job.

What is A Temp Service?

A temporary employment agency or a temp service is a company set up to match potential employers with those looking for work in their community. A temp service is a great way to speed up the employment process and give employers an opportunity to see an employee in action before they choose to offer them permanent employment. Often a temp position can lead to a permanent position.

How Does a Temp Service Work?

The first step is to make an appointment with a temp service in your area. At your appointment, you will be interviewed and the service will gather information about your work history, education, experience, and skills. This information will be put into a database of potential employers in the area looking for someone like you. Once you are matched, the temp service will set up a time for you to meet with the employer or employers. You will interview with the prospective employers. If one position stands out as a good match for everyone, you will be offered a temporary position.

How Much Will I Make?

When working for a temp service, you will make slightly less in the position you choose. The temp service does take a percentage for matching employer to employee. However, many of these temp positions lead to permanent positions at which point the temp service steps out of the picture and you will be offered a new salary as a permanent employee.

A temp service is a great way to find a job quickly and get acquainted with new businesses in your area.
